Bio
Lucy Albright is a producer/songwriter from Montclair, New Jersey. Her influences range from The Postal Service and Sylvan Esso to Open Mike Eagle and Laura Gibson. Albright’s compositions, which deal with themes such as longing, outer space, nostalgia and robots, have been called “comic books in song form,” a label that she very much vibes with.
Lucy Albright, who was raised in suburban New Jersey with equal parts hippie and techie influence, grew up listening to They Might Be Giants and Kimya Dawson. She learned guitar starting at age 12, but decided sooner or later that mastery of an instrument wasn’t the most interesting aspect of music. When her dad bought a condenser microphone, Lucy began her journey of creating music “in the box.” At age 13, she fell in love with layers and effects, and hasn’t looked back. Though her early songs were influenced by YouTube’s world of Minecraft music, she quickly moved beyond parodies to original compositions. But thanks to her unconventional influences, and to the ever-strange discography of They Might Be Giants that played throughout her childhood, Lucy was left with an understanding that music can be anything she wants it to be. She’ll write you a love song, but it might just have robots in it.
Right now, Lucy Albright is preparing to release her first full-length album, Cyberneticism. The album, which is her most electronic yet, could be likened to a sci-fi anthology in miniature. Its nine songs tell the stories of robots, artificial intelligence, and the vast and uncaring ocean that reminds all beings—even digital ones—of their mortality. After the album, Lucy plans to shift her focus to creating singles. She already has a couple in the works, and is very excited to continue the process of melding together all the things she loves and forming them into three-minute songs. You can currently find her work on Bandcamp and SoundCloud under the name pxlflame, and on all streaming platforms under the name Moth in the Machine in the near future.
